Message from the Hospital Director

Hiroaki Nakamura

It is my great honor to extend to you my warm greetings as Director of Osaka Metropolitan University Hospital, the post I was appointed to on October 1, 2022. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to you for your interest in and support for the Hospital.

Osaka Metropolitan University Hospital, the only university hospital in Osaka City, plays the important role of an advanced general medical institution, serving as a pivotal hospital in regional healthcare. The Hospital, designated as a regional cancer treatment liaison center by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, is also active in the development of new cancer diagnostics and therapies.

At the Hospital, we are committed to its fundamental principles of providing quality healthcare to contribute to the local population’s health, training reliable, morally sound healthcare professionals, and making constant efforts for the advancement of medicine and healthcare. These principles are in accord with the founding principles of the School of Medicine of Osaka Metropolitan University (established following a merger between Osaka City University and Osaka Prefecture University): “Wisdom, Humanity, and Courage,” the three Confucian virtues of Chi, Yu, and Jin,

As of April 2022, the Hospital has 37 specialized departments and 965 beds. Its physicians, nurses, other healthcare professionals and workers, and general personnel engage in their day-to-day duties to provide patients with the best possible care and support from multiple perspectives. The Hospital also runs an in-patient support center, a cancer patients’ counseling and support center, and other support systems to create an accessible, patient-friendly environment.

In April 2022, the Cancer Center was newly opened to serve as an all-around system capable of providing physical, moral, and societal support through comprehensive team-based healthcare to allow the needs of as many patients as possible to be closely met.

Moreover, the Hospital conducts physical examinations and associated consultations, drawing on its highly specialized personnel and advanced healthcare expertise, at MedCity 21, its advanced clinic of preventive medicine, against the backdrop of growing demand for measures to lengthen healthy life expectancies.

As we continue to strive to remain a hospital that closely assists and accompanies all patients and their families, we would be most honored to be able to continue to count on your kind support and understanding for many years to come.
